PPR's Learner Advisory Group (2024)
September is Literacy Month in Canada and the United States, and to celebrate, Parkdale Project Read has partnered with local businesses to raise funds and promote literacy across Toronto.

According to Statistics Canada, over 40% of all Canadians need help with literacy. This means at least 2 out of every 5 adults in Canada cannot read well enough to do everyday tasks like paying bills or writing emails.

At Parkdale Project Read, we are committed to supporting learners with their individual literacy goals, while also promoting community development and social justice. 99% of all learners who complete our programs meet their literacy goals, moving on to better employment and becoming more engaged, independent members of their communities.

This Literacy Month, you can support Parkdale Project Read by visiting the following local businesses throughout the month of September 2024:

Another Story Bookshop (315 Roncesvalles Ave), who are offering Mystery Book Bundles for purchase, with all proceeds going directly to Parkdale Project Read

Morning Parade Coffee Bar (256 Crawford St), who will be holding a used book sale on September 28 and 29, with all proceeds going directly to Parkdale Project Read

Three Dollar Bill (1592 Queen St W), who will be holding a "Coming Of Age"-themed Open Mic Night on Tuesday, September 24. Admission is pay-what-you-can, and all door sales will go directly to Parkdale Project Read

Type Books (883 Queen St W), and ask to add a donation to Parkdale Project Read to your purchase

Lily and Rooth Trivia, who will be holding a raffle in support of Parkdale Project Read at their Bob's Burgers Trivia at Peaches Sports Bar (1554 Queen Street W) on Sunday, September 15

Can't make it out to one of these local businesses? Consider making a donation directly to Parkdale Project Read. All online donations will receive a charitable tax receipt.
