Love For All event - Feb 13, 2025

2/18/2025

Picture
Thank you to everyone who attended the Love For All event on Thursday February 13, 2025.

Learners, Community members, Board and current and former staff members joined us to celebrate
the legacy of Premal Laxman and his work with Adult Literacy Learners at Parkdale Project Read

The event featured heartfelt sharing by Premal's family, friends, and colleagues. PPR learners contributed writing on the many forms of love. And we premiered the short video “Cooking with Premal”.

In the video,
Premal Laxman teaches the community at Parkdale Project Read how to make a multi-layered Mega-Dip recipe together. You can watch the video on our Youtube Channel and download the recipe from our website.

We acknowledge the generous support of the Laxman Family and other donors to the Premal Laxman Love For All Fund.

Parkdale Project Read invites you to an exciting Trivia Night in support of Parkdale Project Read. After a smashing success last year, we’re back bigger and better than before!

Taking place at Parkdale’s own Miss Thing's
-- a Hawaiian restaurant and cocktail bar located in the heart of Parkdale — we have partnered with the team at Question Everything Trivia, Toronto's fastest-growing trivia experience, to bring you a night you won’t forget raising funds for our programming and essential Literacy and Basic Skills programs provided by Parkdale Project Read.

Come either on your own or bring a team with you! All skill levels are welcome, and trivia will focus on everything from pop culture, music, various decades, and yes
— even some Parkdale trivia led by Ari Issac at QE Trivia. Plus, music during rounds and after trivia by DJ Atherton! A great way to break up the week and unwind!

The evening also includes:
  • Raffle prizes
  • Prix fixe menu and cocktail menu from Miss Thing’s
  • Music and networking with your Parkdale community

So come one and all to help support Parkdale Project Read and help us raise money to help keep our learner-centered literacy programs focused on each learner's goals, needs, preferences, and interests
FREE for all.

Please give the Gift of Literacy

11/28/2022

Picture
Please give the gift of literacy on #GivingTuesday and contribute to our Holiday Fundraising campaign that launches on November 29th, in alignment with Giving Tuesday, and extends until December 31st.

Your #GivingTuesday donations will help us create more opportunities for learners to learn, connect, and express themselves, including the following in-person programs:

  • Multi-level Upgrading Group - to develop reading, formal writing and digital literacy skills;
  • Homework Club - where children of learners receive support with school work;
  • Math Group - where learners refresh their skills for work and exam preparation;
  • Writing and Communication Group - to develop reflective writing and feedback skills;
  • Book Club - where community members engage with stories, read together, and develop their comprehension and critical thinking skills.

In 2023, we plan to offer learners internet subsidies to offset the effects of inflation, and healthy food boxes to those experiencing financial insecurity. Your contributions make a big impact on our small charitable organization.

Ways to donate:

1. Make a secure online donation on CanadaHelps.org or our GivingTuesday page

2. Mail a cheque or money order to: Parkdale Project Read, 180 Sudbury St, Unit C7, Toronto, Ontario M6J 0A8

3. United Way Donor’s Choice: Ask your workplace to make PPR the recipient of your one-time or monthly donation to a registered charitable organization.

Please make your donation before December 31st to receive a 2022 tax receipt. We provide tax receipts for donations of $20.00 or more.

Thank you for making a difference in the lives of adult literacy learners!
- from all of us at Parkdale Project Read
