Parkdale Project Read presents:

African Liberation Month
Book Club for Adult Literacy Learners

We will read,
Standing in My Rightful Place written by PPR Learner, Nancy Dixon.

This moving autobiography recounts Nancy’s experiences growing up in Africville, a small community of predominantly Black Canadians that was was once located in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Dates: four Monday afternoons
February 7, 14, 28 & March 7, 2022

Time: 2-4 PM (E.S.T.) on Zoom

Standing in My Rightful Place, My Story by Nancy Dixon was published in December 2021 by Parkdale People's Press. It features illustrations by PPR Tutor, Janice Tufford. 

The book is currently available from our community partner, Another Story Bookshop.


About the Author
Nancy Dixon was born in Africville, Nova Scotia. She moved to Toronto in 1969 where she still lives. Nancy has been a learner at Parkdale Project Read for over 20 years.

About the Illustrator
Janice Tufford worked as a film and television producer, ESL teacher and freelance illustrator. She has been a volunteer tutor at PPR since 2010. She lives in Toronto. Nancy and Janice have worked together at Parkdale Project Read since 2018.

Parkdale People's Press has been publishing the stories of adult literacy learners since 1990.
