Are you struggling to incorporate math into your tutoring sessions and aren't sure where to start?
It can be hard to combine the two, especially if math isn't your favourite subject!
The West TO Literacy Collaborative has organized a Professional Development Training for Tutors in partnership with Literacy Works:
Math in Adult Literacy
Date: Wednesday November 24, 2021
Time: 6-8 PM E.S.T
In this training, we'll focus on the CUBES technique and demonstrate how to use the vocabulary of math to boost English and math skills at the same time. Attendees will have a chance to practice and discuss this new method and how to apply it to our work right away!
This training is geared towards tutors and teachers but everyone is welcome. Registration recommended
About the Facilitator:
Keighty (they/them) began their work as an educational ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter and quickly became interested in the teaching they were interpreting. They taught English as a Second Language for three years, while pursuing their M.A in Applied Linguistics. Their thesis focused on d/Deaf adult English learners, which led them to become interested in adult education specifically. They have presented at several conferences about adult education and have mentored many new presenters to do the same. Through their work they hope to help make education accessible and equal for all who seek it. In their spare time, Keighty loves to grow vegetables, practice art making, or watch their cats run around in the yard.
